Why our Junior Primary?

Our Junior Primary department is a vibrant phase of our school offering rich and varied opportunities. The ethos and values to which the school subscribes help create coherence and a sense of belonging.

Here, the focus is on extending and affirming a child’s curiosity, sense of inquiry and ability to make the correct choices. Our hurt-free school policy ensures that girls are given the skills needed to enjoy happy, healthy relationships.

Specifically, our curriculum allows for the development of critical thinking and is relevant, and adaptable to the needs of our pupils.

Learning takes place both at school, and beyond the classroom. Our warm, experienced teachers ensure that our girls are well prepared for an increasingly demanding world.

Academic Programme

Our Grade 1, 2 and 3 classes create the basis of learning by both laying a strong foundation in Mathematics and English, and by the development of critical thinking skills and creativity.

Music, Art and Drama play an important and vital role in nurturing self-confidence, the power of the imagination, and effective communication skills.

Outdoor skills, developed both in sport and by the use of our adventure playground, add a wonderful richness to childhood in our phase. Our focus is on extending and affirming a child’s curiosity, sense of inquiry and ability to make the correct choices.

Continuous assessment takes place to monitor individual progress. Our teachers make themselves available to assist a girl, or girls, who need support for a particular section of the curriculum. If additional support is required, we have professionals are available on-site to assist

Aftercare

The Junior Primary aftercare facility is available from 13h00 to 16h45.

Our team of aftercare staff members provide a home away from home for our little girls. The girls may attend aftercare on a regular basis i.e. on a set day or days per term, or on a casual basis.

Some homework is supervised, though parents are encouraged to still play a part in checking their daughter’s homework. Outdoor and indoor games and refreshments are provided during the afternoon.
